Advisory - Strategic Mandates

spy photography intelligence rome italy

Long-term partnerships for high-complexity environments.

I work with 3-5 organizations per year on strategic mandates where the Grey Zone applies: complexity, perception, influence, and intelligence operations.

Not consulting. Applied strategic thinking.

These are long-term partnerships (6 to 12 months minimum) focused on problems where conventional frameworks structurally fail.

You don't get a report and implementation plan. You get a strategic mind trained to see what you can't, operating as an extension of your capacity over time.

Where the Grey Zone applies

I advise leaders navigating liminal environments where:

Complexity
Multi-vectorial challenges. Systemic transitions. Ambiguous situations where linear analysis breaks down. Problems that don't fit neat categories.

Perception
How you're seen vs. how you intend to be seen. Strategic messaging in contested narratives. Blind spots that generate vulnerability. Reputation under attack.

Influence
Grey zone operations. Narrative warfare. Strategic communication when attribution is unclear. Power dynamics without formal authority.

Intelligence
HUMINT and OSINT operations. Geopolitical risk assessment. Threat identification when adversaries operate without fingerprints. Operational security in hostile environments.

Examples of challenges

  • Expanding into geopolitically sensitive markets where conventional risk assessment misses structural threats

  • Navigating regulatory grey zones where rules are ambiguous and adversaries operate without attribution

  • Managing perception during crisis when narrative control has been lost

  • Strategic positioning when competitors use grey zone tactics

  • High-stakes negotiations where cultural blind spots generate vulnerability

  • Internal power dynamics where formal authority doesn't map to real influence

  • Threat assessment when intelligence suggests something is wrong but can't be named clearly

How I work

I privilege direct 1:1 engagement with the decision-maker.

Not through layers. Not through teams. Direct strategic thinking with the person who carries the weight of the decision.

Why 1:1:

Most strategic failures happen because intelligence gets filtered, diluted, or misinterpreted as it moves through organizational layers.

By the time critical information reaches the decision-maker, it's been sanitized, politicized, or stripped of the nuance that matters.

I eliminate that.

You get unfiltered strategic thinking. No corporate translation. No softening of hard truths. Direct assessment of what's actually happening and what it means for your position.

Three engagement models

Model 1: Direct Strategic Partnership (primary)

Model 1: Direct Strategic Partnership (primary)

1:1 sustained engagement with the decision-maker.

For leaders who:

  • Engage in complex international transactions across multiple jurisdictions, regulatory environments, cultural contexts

  • Navigate high-stakes negotiations where cultural blind spots, perception misalignment, or hidden power dynamics generate risk

  • Face perception management challenges at scale (how you're seen by adversaries, partners, regulators, markets)

  • Deal with geopolitical complexity intersecting with business strategy

  • Encounter grey zone dynamics

FORMAT:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly strategic calls (60-90 min)

  • Direct access via secure channels for urgent situations

  • Strategic assessments and framework applications as needed

  • 6-12 months minimum

What this looks like:

You're navigating a high-stakes situation.

The terrain is ambiguous.

Conventional analysis keeps missing the structure.

We engage directly. I apply frameworks (Grey Zone™, Quantum, 4 Archetypes) to your specific situation. I reveal the invisible dynamics generating your challenges.

You make decisions. I provide the strategic clarity to make them well.

Investment: $15,000-$25,000/month

Availability: 3-5 mandates per year.

Currently capacity for 1 additional in 2026.

Model 2: Strategic Intervention with Teams

Workshops, talks, reality checks for organizations.

Sometimes the problem isn't just strategic clarity for the decision-maker. It's that the team operates with frameworks that structurally fail in your environment.

I intervene to:

  • Disrupt comfortable assumptions that generate blind spots

  • Install new frameworks (Grey Zone™, Quantum, complexity thinking)

  • Reality check strategic plans against operational reality

  • Shake up groupthink that prevents seeing what's actually happening

Half-day or full-day workshops
Deep dive into Grey Zone dynamics, perception engineering, threat assessment, strategic thinking for complexity.

Strategic talks/keynotes
60-90 minute interventions. Not motivational. Provocative. Designed to shift how teams see problems.

Team reality checks
I assess your team's strategic analysis, plans, or positioning. Then deliver unfiltered assessment of what they're missing and why.

Investment: Custom (depends on scope, team size, location)

Purpose: Not training. Strategic rewiring. Your team stops thinking in categories that no longer apply. They start operating with frameworks that match your actual environment.

Model 3: Surgical Intervention (exceptional cases)

Rare. Urgent. High-stakes.

For situations that demand immediate strategic action on Grey Zone problems.

You're facing a crisis or high-pressure situation that requires surgical precision and rapid deployment.
Not sustained partnership. Not team workshops. Focused intervention on a specific problem that can't wait.

Examples:

  • Legal warfare: Crafting strategic narrative before trial. Perception management when reputation is under attack in court.

  • Crisis communication: Grey zone situation where standard PR fails. Attribution unclear. Adversaries operating without fingerprints.

  • Emergency negotiation: High-stakes deal collapsing. Cultural blind spots or perception misalignment generating failure.

  • Geopolitical rupture: Sudden regulatory change or political shift. Need immediate strategic assessment and positioning.

  • Reputation warfare: Coordinated attack (narrative, regulatory, competitive). Need to understand structure and respond strategically.

  • Internal crisis: Leadership coup, hostile board situation, power play where formal authority doesn't map to real dynamics.

Not every urgent situation qualifies. This is for Grey Zone problems - where ambiguity is structural, attribution is unclear, and conventional response mechanisms don't apply. If standard crisis consultants can handle it, they should. I intervene when the situation operates in liminal space.

Format

  • Intensive sprints: 1-3 weeks of concentrated engagement

  • Rapid diagnostic: 24-48 hours to assess structure and develop strategic response

  • Direct execution support: I work alongside you (or your team) in real-time as situation evolves

  • Communication secured: Encrypted channels, absolute discretion, operational security

Investment: depending on complexity, urgency and intensity required.

Retainer option for recurring risk: If you operate in environments where surgical interventions may be needed unpredictably, retainer arrangements ensure priority access.

Who this is for

Decision-makers who:

  • Operate in grey zone environments (geopolitical, regulatory, competitive)

  • Face challenges where conventional strategic analysis has failed

  • Need someone who thinks structurally, not tactically

  • Can handle unfiltered assessment without corporate cushioning

Organizations where:

  • Teams operate with outdated frameworks that generate blind spots

  • Groupthink prevents seeing structural threats

  • Strategic plans look good on paper but miss operational reality

  • Leadership needs teams to think differently, not just execute better
